Our Story

Gold-Plated Filigree Lucky Gourd
Grace is a home designer graduated from the University of the Arts London major in Home Design. She and her good friend Olivia, who has long worked as a offline furnishing store manager, are both passionate about home soft furnishings matching.
But Grace finds that most common home products on the market are hollow in design concept and rather boring: "Either they focus solely on aesthetics (fragile glass) or only on practicality (dull storage boxes)." Both of them aspire to create home products that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also rich in cultural connotations—products that embody the three core elements of "aesthetic texture, practical function, and emotional value." Thus, they hit it off immediately and decided to launch a gourd-themed home goods brand: HOOHLU.

When it comes to the inspiration for their products, they also put a lot of thought into it. Within the context of Eastern culture, the gourd is a highly spiritual and symbolically significant entity. In terms of its shape, the gourd owns a magical balance of lines and curves — its smooth curved surface that flows from top to bottom has neither the harshness of sharp edges nor the rigidity of dull straight lines, exuding elegance in its roundness and hiding rhythm in its softness.
More importantly, the gourd carries profound implications of good fortune and positive energy. It serves as a direct embodiment of aspirations for a better life: its hollow form is regarded as a practical metaphor for "containing and connecting," and further gives rise to spiritual symbols of "purification and transcendence." In addition, the trailing nature of its vines and its many seeds symbolize unceasing vitality and the prosperity and wholeness of families.
This trait of materializing "good fortune" makes the gourd a vivid vessel for conveying good fortune and positive energy—its significance far exceeds that of an ordinary object. This aligns perfectly with their design philosophy and value proposition for the brand.
